Recherche

Funding for European research

In the European Union, expertise and the role of experts are subject to the rules that govern in each country, which results in wide differences in the implementation of an expertise and namely in the responsibility an expert may have.

This is why, four years ago, at the heart of the European Union and with the support of the Senior President of the Court of Cassation who is at the origin of this project, we founded the European Expertise and Expert Institute. We then launched plans of action, namely in the field of comparative research, on the following subjects :

  • expertise in civil law,
  • expertise in criminal law
  • the status of experts.

The Institute’s mission is two-fold :

  • to participate in the general reflection to improve the practices of judicial expertise,
  • to participate in the discussions on the harmonisation of expertise in Europe.

In order to reach these objectives, the Institute has decided to fund research grants and to disseminate the results of this research in order to promote a constructive debate on these issues.
