WP3 is in charge of proposing a convergent nomenclature of fields of expertise. The main issue is to identify the main categories and sub-categories of a Findex-nomenclature to be used as a structure in the search engine and to define the scope of those as clearly as possible. Afterwards and in a second step, WP3 will work out the process of matching existing national nomenclature with the Findex-nomenclature (mapping), figuring out which categories of Member States correlate to which category in the Findex-nomenclature.
The development of the Findex-nomenclature was firstly based on observation and evaluation of the status of existing nomenclature. The nomenclatures of the six pilot countries (Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania) and others were collected from the beginning of the project until August 2022. This research work was the subject of the first deliverable (Deliverable D.3.1), finalized on August 31st, 2022.
Existing nomenclatures
From these data, works have been carried out in two stages:
- August 2022 – November 2022: Identification of the groups (level 1) and the categories (level 2) of the Findex nomenclature. Coming from the screening of existing nomenclature, similarities, and overlaps have been mirrored and led to the first draft of groups and categories of fields of expertise. Each participant of WP3 was asked to identify the categories to be included in the nomenclature, to comment on the initial draft and suggest for additions. A meeting was held in Brussels on November 4th, 2022 to compare the proposed solutions and to discuss a first structure of the nomenclature.
- November 2022 – March 2023: Identification of the sub-categories (level 3). Once the groups and categories were broadly agreed on and determined (mid-December 2022), groups of participants were formed to work out subcategories, namely further split-ups of areas of expertise on the third level. A meeting by Teams was held on January 23rd, 2023 to share and discuss this work and the nomenclature draft in general. A preliminary agreement could be reached. At the end of this meeting, participants were asked to cross-check national systems of nomenclature for the need for further refinements and to provide comments. A second remote meeting was held by Teams on March 3rd, 2023 to finalize the works on the nomenclature-draft and to consent on groups, categories, and subcategories as presented in this document.
Draft nomenclature
March 2023 – in progress: matching national nomenclature with Findex-nomenclature, if needed issuing recommendations/explanations/guidelines to facilitate the understanding of the Findex-nomenclature. During the mapping-process of matching national nomenclatures with Findex-nomenclature, possible refinements of the terminology and the need for descriptions of the scope of categories will be assessed.
