Summary

The VR DigiJust project is creating a regional network of virtual training centres to help criminal justice practitioners use EU cooperation instruments effectively and consistently.

The project has identified five training themes:

  • Definition of digital justice
  • Online search, Trojans and investigative hacking
  • Collection, preservation and transmission of electronic evidence under existing supranational and national legislation
  • Digital investigations, proportionality and respect for privacy and data protection
  • Training in EU law

These topics were identified through a series of Communities of Practice (CoPs) with practitioners from different countries. These Communities of Practice also identified some key findings, such as:

  • There is a common concern about data collection and security.
  • European and local legislation on new technologies in the criminal justice system is not always harmonised.
  • There is a need for more practical training on new technologies.
  • Collaboration between countries needs to be strengthened and synchronised.

The VR DigiJust project will now further develop these training topics in real cases and training scenarios.

In conclusion, the VR DigiJust project is making significant progress in creating a valuable training resource for criminal justice practitioners.
