As part of its information campaign, the EEEI wishes to bring to the attention of its members the language tools developed by the European Commission, including the eTranslation service.

As part of an initiative to promote multilingualism, these AI-powered tools are designed to facilitate the translation, drafting and comprehension of content in multiple languages.

A suite of tools for multilingualism

These services form part of a broader strategy aimed at facilitating communication between the various languages of the European Union, drawing on artificial intelligence technologies and the linguistic expertise developed by the European institutions.

They not only enable translation, but also allow content to be generated, summarised and adapted for various professional purposes.

The main tools available

  • eTranslation: machine translation of texts and documents into the languages of the European Union;
  • eSummary: document summary generation;
  • eBriefing: creating summary documents from multiple sources;
  • eReply: assistance with drafting formal replies;
  • eReporting: identification of reporting requirements and report generation.

Other tools complement this suite:

  • Anonymisation: the deletion or masking of personal data;
  • WebText: optimising content for clear online reading;
  • Accessible Text: simplifying texts to improve their accessibility;
  • Multilingual Post: rapid translation of short content into several languages;
  • Speech-to-text: transcription of audio or video files.

These tools therefore cover a wide range of requirements relating to the management of multilingual content.

Free and secure tools

The services offered by the European Commission are:

  • free of charge for many eligible users (government bodies, universities, organisations, SMEs, etc.);
  • secure, with data being processed in an environment controlled by the European institutions.

They can be accessed via an online interface or, in some cases, through integration with existing systems.

Support for European activities

These tools have been developed to meet the needs of a European environment characterised by linguistic diversity.

In particular, they enable:

  • to make it easier to understand foreign documents;
  • to produce multilingual content more quickly;
  • to support exchanges between international partners.

In this way, they help to break down language barriers and improve access to information.

Terms of access

Use of these services requires prior registration, in accordance with the terms and conditions laid down by the European Commission.

Like any tool based on artificial intelligence, these services are designed to assist with writing and translation.
A human proofread is still recommended, particularly for sensitive or specialist content.
