On 12 and 13 October 2026, the Ateneo Veneto in Venice hosted the final conference of the European project ‘Digital Rights – Safeguarding Fundamental Rights in the Digital Transformation of Criminal Justice’. Bringing together judges, lawyers, academics, representatives of European institutions and experts in digital technologies, this meeting provided an opportunity to examine the implications of the digital transformation of criminal justice and the safeguards required to protect fundamental rights.

Across five thematic sessions, the speakers explored the key issues relating to digital evidence, artificial intelligence, the new e-Evidence Regulation and developments in European mechanisms for judicial cooperation. The discussions also provided an opportunity to present the findings of the Digital Rights project, in particular the methodological tools and recommendations for legal practitioners.
