Last April 10th I had the opportunity and pleasure to personally participate in the General Assembly of the European Expertise & Expert Institute, which was held in Florence.
In the splendid setting of Palazzo Vecchio, in the presence of the mayor of Florence and the local authorities, interventions of great interest took place, during which I had the opportunity to understand how the work carried out by the EEEI in recent years is very advanced and focused on convergence of different themes.
The involvement of various professionals such as magistrates, experts, university professors, lawyers and representatives of the justice ministers of different European states has provided a panoramic vision of the efforts and progress made by the EEEI (European Expertise & Expert Institute) on the path towards integration of different judicial and legal aspects.
The convergence of various aspects concerned areas such as the standardization of procedures, the homogenization of nomenclatures aimed at identifying the specializations of experts, cross-border legal cooperation and the use of new technologies to identify the expert in the European legal framework. These discussions and comparisons are key to shaping a more coherent and unified justice system across Europe, helping to improve the quality of judicial activity and the timescales for resolving judicial disputes.
The speeches of the president of ConfGiustizia, prof. Franco Pagani and the President of the court of Florence, Marilena Rizzo, allowed the participants to understand what an important role the expert plays in the Italian judicial system, where almost two thirds of the cases involve official technical consultancy and 95% of the sentences repeat the results presented in the expert’s paper.
In this scenario, it is clear that the preparation and the high degree of professionalism and specialization of the expert consulted by the Judge can in fact determine the quality of the judgment.
